Wintery Weather Update

8th Mar 2023

As you may be aware, cold, windy and snowy weather is due to hit us overnight and throughout the day tomorrow.

It is our intention to keep school open to all pupils as normal.

However, if the worst snow hits us, we may have to make some last minute decisions tomorrow morning.

We always have a lot to think about before opening school in very poor weather. In fact, the Department of Education asks school Principals to consider a range of questions including:

-can pupils and staff access the school building safely.
-can pupils and staff be evacuated in an emergency.
-If a limited number of staff can attend due to poor weather, is the Pupil:Teacher ratio acceptable.
-Have local weather forecasts and road conditions, including those from areas staff are travelling from, been considered.

As you can see, there are a number of different things Principals need to think about before declaring a school safe to open.

If any change to school opening needs to happen updates will be given on FACEBOOK, via the SCHOOL APP and via the BBC. If possible, please try to leave our school phone lines free.

Hopefully school will open tomorrow as normal and remain open as normal throughout the school day - however, it is good to be prepared.

Thanks,

Mr F.
